Center Announcement: Newly Accepted Innovation Project, Millikin University

Millikin University’s School of Education in collaboration with Decatur Public School is developing a research-based student teaching model using co-teaching strategies.  This approach is based on the award-winning national model created and implemented by St. Cloud University.  Twelve teacher candidates will experience this new student teaching model.

This project directly relates to ACI’s Center for Success in High-Need Schools goals:

            1. preparing teachers for high-need schools

            2. developing a model curricula addressing the specific challenges of high-need schools.

At the completion of this experience, Millikin’s teacher candidates will develop greater confidence, enabling them to be more comfortable teaching in high-need schools, and developing skills directly from the experience of teaching in the high-need schools side-by-side with their cooperating teacher.
