2008 Arts & Sciences Colloquium: “Learning Together to Strengthen Teacher Preparation: Issues of Education and Equity”
ACI’s Center for Success in High-Need Schools will host its fourth annual Arts & Sciences Colloquium on Friday, September 26, 2008. A day-long event, the colloquium is designed to foster collaboration between arts and science and teacher education faculty members. This year’s event will feature keynote speaker Michael Gurian, New York Times bestselling author of “The Minds of Boys” and co-founder of the Gurian Institute. Gerald Graff, president of the Modern Language Association, will deliver the opening address. The day includes a stimulating agenda of sessions that address promising practices for preparing teachers for high-need schools; strategies and outcomes of faculty collaboration; and summer action research projects completed by ACI faculty members.
Professional development funds of $1,000 are available to ACI member colleges and universities sending a team of at least four faculty (at least two arts and science faculty and two teacher education faculty) to the Colloquium.
Participants are asked to register by September 12, 2008. To request a registration form or obtain additional information, contact Lidia Han (tel. 312-516-2538).
