Bringing culture into the literacy classroom
Here’s a great idea to help your students understand and appreciate different cultures - Judy Fiene
Plan thematic units on cultural foods, using the traditions, costumes, and music of a particular culture. Have students decorate the room and invite the principal, school board president, and city mayor for a visit and perhaps a tasting treat. Invite your students to share a piece of oral history that has been passed down from generation to generation. Or, have them research a country that represents their heritage.
